Smooth Away - Smoothing Out Cellulite With New Treatment
No matter how hard you try diet and exercise alone is often not enough to get rid of cellulite, although it will help reduce the appearance of cellulite. However, with the help of a new technology there just might be a way to get rid of those wavy lumps directly underneath your skin.
Dr. Michael Kulick, a plastic surgeon from San Francisco, has started using a new laser technology that focuses on smoothing out those waves. An advantage to using laser technology is that it doesn’t require you to undergo surgery, so it is more affordable. The treatment consists of eight sessions that are spread out over a two-month period. How much the treatment costs depends on the area being treated, but averages $200 to $1,200.
The cellulite is smoothed out because the laser applies heat to the different layers of the skin tissue using two wavelengths. The first wavelength is used to liquefy the fat cells so that they can be redistributed. The second wavelength uses a vacuum and roller system to open up the pores so that the liquefied fat can be pushed out and reabsorbed by the body’s lymphatic system. The new treatment is not designed to improve the shape of your body; it will not take inches off your waist or thighs. All it does is smooth away the cellulite so your skin feels smooth rather than lumpy.
Dr. Kulick has used “smooth away” in 20 patients were he has documented the results with a three-dimensional camera. He has also submitted a paper to the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery stating that in three-fourths of the patients studied measurable improvement has been made and has lasted for over six months.
