Mesotherapy

Mesothrapy is a cellulite treatment method that was devised by Dr. Michael Pistor. It involves the injection of medications directly into the skin of the problematic area. Basically, any medication that is injected into the skin, tissues or fat of the mesoderm is referred to as mesotherapy.

Mesotherapy treatment for the removal of cellulite in legs is injected from the buttocks to knees, including front, back and sides of thighs. The medication solution that is injected includes homeopathic medication, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and pharmaceuticals effective in removing cellulite.

The needles used for mesotherapy treatment are thin and short. Patients require either 4 mm needles or 6 mm needles, dependant on the individual, to ensure that the medication reaches the right depth.

The procedure

By injecting this medication into the skin, the enzymes and vitamins improve blood circulation, drainage and also dissolve scar tissue. Most people who have undergone mesotherapy find positive results with the treatment. You will look thinner as your clothing becomes looser as the mesotherapy produces loss of inches as opposed to weight loss.

However, it is wise to remember that cellulite will not disappear in a day; you have to take 10 - 15 mesotherapy cellulite treatments before you actually find significant results. And if you are not suffering from cellulite, and your skin condition is due to sun damage, excessive rounds of liposuction and skin laxity, the results of mesotherapy treatment will not be effective.

Mesotherapy is not a form of liposuction

This does not mean that mesotherapy is similar to liposuction as they are two different procedures. There is no use of any anesthesia, risk of surgery or recovery time required with mesotherapy.

Moreover fat is removed from the fat cell level, without actually destroying it, to give natural end results. And if you regain weight after mesotherapy, fat returns to the treated areas and not, like liposuction, to places where there was no fat before such as the neck and face area.

Side effects

There are not many side effects apparently associated with mesotherapy apart from some local bruising and swelling, irritation and itching. Moreover, there is not much pain associated with mesotherapy treatment. The most you may experience is some minimal discomfort. However if you have a low pain threshold, you can use a topical anesthetic.

The results of the mesotherapy treatment are meant to last as long as you maintain a healthy diet and a regular exercise regimen. With mesothearpy treatment, you usually require some maintenance for six months to a year.
